ENG: The most beautiful stars are not always those we see easily and everywhere. Some of them need to be looked for and when we find them their shine may reflect from our eyes brighter than ever seen before.

That’s the case of Parfums de Nicolaï, an excellent perfume house established in late ‘80^th, whose keywords are discretion, refinement, humbleness and elegance. Minimalism and simplicity of Nicolai’s flacons confirm their unwillingness to appear, but the fragrance you find inside is fabulous.

Patricia de Nicolaï, the founder of Parfums de Nicolai  (recently named to NICOLAÏ Parfumeur-Crèateur), has her roots in Guerlain’s family. She is the great grand-daughter of Pierre Guerlain, a niece of Jean-Paul Guerlain and is grown up among perfumes. Her studies of perfumery and desire to create fragrances was written into her DNA and brought her to win precious awards for her work. Besides guiding her own perfume house she is also the president of L’Osmotheque, the perfume museum at Versailles. Her son Axel de Nicolaï joined Parfumes de Nicolaï some years ago and collaborates in perfume-creating process and became the general manger of  the company.

There are well-known masterpieces in the list of Nicolaï’s fragrances like Number One, Odalisque, New York, Juste un Rêve and others, but I would like to describe in two words some others that get less attention but absolutely deserve it.

Musc Intense – perfume that Patricia de Nicolaï called the most challenging of her collection. Musc is a note that may come overwhelming and even hardly tolerable, but combining it with right notes becomes fascinating. Here it gives a solid sensual base for elegant flowers and sweet fruits – rose, jasmine and juicy pear.

L’Eau à la Folie – Frizzy freshness of Mojito is what you find in L’Eau à al Folie. Bitter and invigorating freshness of lime and mint is so cool and perfect for hot summer days.

Balle de Match – one of the best grapefruits I have ever tested. Even it’ s marked as masculine fragrance, it’s totally unisex. It’s not too bitter or acid, mandarin adds sweetness, black pepper and woody notes depth and flowers tenderness.

Baladin – refined masculine elegance presented by citruses, rosemary and vetiver on solid leathery musky base. Still discrete and not aggressive like all Nicolai’s fragrances.

Week-end – an afternoon of late spring spent with friends at countryside close to the sea… The smell of liberty and relax… wonderful combination of grassy galbanum, mint, fruity crispy apple, lily of the valley and the breath of the sea.

Petit Ange – a cologne created for kids, but I suggest it  for anyone who loves lilac. It’s close to be a soliflower, but the perfection has been achieved by combining lilac with light citruses an soft woods.

Besides perfumes, Nicolaï creates marvelous home fragrances and candles, that definitely are to discover!

IT: Le stelle più belle non sono sempre quelle che vediamo facilmente e ovunque. Alcune di loro devono essere cercate e quando le troviamo, il loro splendore si  riflette dai nostri occhi in modo più luminoso che mai visto.

È il caso di Parfums de Nicolaï, un'eccellente casa di profumi fondata alla fine degli anni ‘80, che si distingue per la discrezione, per la raffinatezza, per l’umiltà ed l’eleganza. La semplicità dei flaconi di Nicolaï conferma la loro riluttanza ad apparire, le fragranze che trovi all’ interno non lasciano indifferenti.

Patricia de Nicolaï,  fondatrice di Parfums de Nicolaï (recentemente nominata a NICOLAÏ Parfumeur-Crèateur), ha le radici nella famiglia Guerlain. È la pronipote di Pierre Guerlain, la nipote di Jean-Paul Guerlain ed è cresciuta tra i profumi. I suoi studi di profumeria e il desiderio di creare fragranze erano scritti nel suo DNA e l'hanno portata a vincere preziosi premi. Patricia de Nicolaï, oltre a guidare la sua casa dei profumi, è anche presidente di L'Osmotheque, il museo dei profumi di Versailles. Da alcuni anni è entrato nella azienda suo figlio Axel de Nicolaï che collabora al processo creativo e gestisce l'azienda.

Tra le fragranze ci sono dei capolavori ben noti, come Number One, Odalisque, New York, Juste un Rêve e altri, ma vorrei descrivere in due parole alcune altre creazioni di Patrcia de Nicolaï che ricevano meno attenzione ma lo meritano assolutamente.

Musc Intense - il profumo che Patricia de Nicolaï ha definito la più “challenging” della sua collezione. Muschio è una nota che possa essere travolgente e persino difficilmente tollerabile, ma combinata con le note giuste acquista un fascino inconfondibile. Qui si trova a creare una base solida e sensuale per i fiori eleganti e i frutti succosi. Nella composizione trionfano la rosa, il gelsomino e la pera.

L'Eau à la Folie – ci offre una frizzante  freschezza di Mojito. Le note naturali agrumati, leggermente amare del lime e della menta sono sono perfette per accompagnarci alle più calde giornate d’estete.

Balle de Match - uno dei migliori profumi al pompelmo che abbia mai sentito. Classificato come una fragranza maschile, ma è assolutamente portabile anche da donna, come tutte le fragranze di Nicolaï, per l’altro. Non è né troppo amara, nè troppo acida. Il mandarino aggiunge la dolcezza, il pepe nero e note legnose la grinta e i fiori un tocco di tenerezza.

Baladin - la raffinata eleganza maschile presentata dagli agrumi, dal rosmarino e dal vetiver con una solida base muschiata cuoiata. Sempre discreta e non aggressiva come tutte le fragranze di Nicolaï.

Week-end - un pomeriggio di fine primavera ...i sentori della libertà e del relax ... la meravigliosa combinazione del galbano verde, della menta ghiacciale, delle mele fruttate e croccanti, del mughetto e della brezza marina.

Petit Ange - una colonia creata per i bambini, ma la consiglio a tutti coloro che amano il lillà. È quasi un profumo “solinota”, ma la perfezione è stata raggiunta combinando il lillà con tocco leggera degli agrumi e dei legni.

Nicolaï,  oltre ai profumi, crea meravigliose fragranze per l’ambiente e le candele profumate, che sono tutte da scoprire!
